Ex England football legend Peter Shilton has honoured Shropshire’s top sport stars at a special event in Telford recently. The record caps holder was at Shrewsbury Town’s Prostar Stadium for the annual Energize Awards, run by Energize Shropshire, the county’s sports partnership in association with Paycare. The former goalkeeper, who represented England 125 times, made a speech before the awards were handed out and our own Diane Halford was awarded ‘Volunteer of the Year’ – congratulations Di it is thoroughly deserved.!

Young Ace Jessica is European No.1

Shropshire badminton ace Jessica Pugh has become the leading European player for her age group. 12 year old Jessica from Telford produced a dynamic performance to win an international tournament in Malmo, Sweden.
Representing England in the under-13's Jessica had two convincing singles victories over top seed Julie Jenson and third seed Sara Lungaard. To top off a great weekend Jessica then claimed the final with a brilliant performance over Danish player, Mia Blichfeldt, coming back from a game down, 19-21, 21-11,21-18.
The performance drew praise from Badminton England head-coach, Tom Causer.
